Four magnificent Medieval Stone Ring Forts at Waterville, Cahersiveen and Castlecove

The Skellig Coast is fortunate to have 4 impressive Irish Stone Ring Forts – Cahergal & Lacanabuaile outside Caherciveen, Loher outside Waterville and Staigue Fort near Castlecove.  The stone forts at Caherciveen and Waterville have been beautifully restored and each one is set in a location that makes the most of the spectacular views surrounding them.  Children in particular love exploring the Skellig Coast forts where they can let their imaginations run free.

The Ring Forts are at least 1,000 years old - Staigue Fort at Castlecove is the oldest of the Skellig Coast forts and the largest.  These sites were very much a feature of the Medieval Irish landscape, built by the ruling Clanns as a demonstration of their strength, craftsmanship and wealth and a haven for their protection.
